Expanded Printing Capabilities
Rather than dedicating a separate printer to each source system, the NetPrint System enables printing to any network printer, regardless of where the print job originated. For example, products running on UNIX®, Windows® or even a mainframe environment can all print to the same printer. Furthermore, NetPrint incorporates printer management functions including lost-page protection, output enhancement and printer monitoring.

Mission-Critical Server Support
To maximize output availability, NetPrint is designed to reduce the impact of a server failure. The system is deployed in pairs of servers for every 150 printers in the enterprise. Each server in a pair is responsible for providing redundant coverage of printers should the other server in the pair suddenly stop communicating on the network.

One monitoring workstation may be used to manage up to eight pairs of servers. In turn, the servers allow communication with multiple workstations. Monitoring workstations may watch and affect server operations and alter the flow of reports. A browser-based user interface allows similar functionality without a client program installed at the remote location. This allows a remote operator to redirect print to a functioning printer, for example.

Printer Compatibility
The NetPrint System is designed to work with most laser printers (such as Hewlett-Packard and Lexmark™) and network-attachment devices, including Jet-Direct and MarkNet™ network-interface cards. If uncertainty exists as to the compatibility of other printers or network-interface cards, please contact Hospira for a compatibility evaluation.

Beyond Hospital Walls
In addition to directing output to fax machines and e-mail accounts, NetPrint can also send time-sensitive information to text pagers. FTP sites can receive encrypted delivery as well.

Point-of-Care Solutions

In the fast-paced world of today's healthcare environments, the pressure exists to continually improve services that impact safety and clinician workflow efficiencies. The real-time delivery of printed reports to all parties involved in the circle of patient care plays an important role within these initiatives.

The NetPrint System is designed to provide an enterprise-wide output management solution that meets the complex needs of a healthcare organization. Through the use of the NetPrint System, hospitals have the ability to tailor the delivery of vital clinical and financial reports to their user community.

A Single Point of Management
Imagine having the capability to manage all output irrespective of the originating application and platform. The key to output management is allowing a report to reach all required destinations—from printers, faxes, e-mail accounts, pagers, etc.—based on a single iteration of that report from the originating application. Once it receives a print job, the NetPrint System determines the type of destination and the intended recipient, formats the job for each destination, and sends the job, without additional user intervention.

Key features include the following:

  • Centralized management of all output
    • Through the centralized tool set provided by the NetPrint System, customers can save time in configuring their output.
    • The system manages output from all applications found in the entire organization.
  • Automatic notification of printer problems
    • The system is able to assess the condition of network printers using the simple network management protocol (SNMP). Basic problems such as shortages of paper, paper jams and power outages, as well as more intricate problems such as fuser failure and other internal hardware malfunctions, are detected and reported to the server.
    • All information is available to workstations with a monitoring client, or through a Web-based interface.
  • Laser-printed patient wristbands
    • Eliminate embossed cards through the use of laser-printed patient ID bracelets.
  • Automatic faxing of reports
    • The system automatically faxes reports at the same time that they are printed, facilitating the real-time delivery of pertinent reports to off-site locations and third parties.
    • All faxing occurs without user intervention.
    • Electronic forms and graphics can be incorporated into faxed reports.
  • Automatic e-mailing of reports
    • NetPrint automatically directs reports to e-mail recipients.
  • Electronic forms
    • Through the use of electronic forms technology, NetPrint can print a fully populated electronic form on a standard laser printer without a preprinted form.
    • This reduces costs and eliminates the need for a dedicated forms printer.
  • Bar-code support
  • Report distribution
