Leading in product design

The VisIV™ container has won a bronze International Design Excellence Award (IDEA) in the "Medical & Scientific Products" category. The IDEA program is co-sponsored by BusinessWeek and the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The awards celebrate the best product designs of the year in a variety of product categories, to help foster business and public understanding of the impact of industrial design excellence on the quality of life and the economy. Inspiring the industry

Chris Begley, Hospira's chairman and chief executive officer, was named one of the 100 Most Inspiring People in the Life-Sciences Industry by the readers of PharmaVoice. The distinction recognizes his ability to inspire and motivate, his influence as a corporate leader, and his positive impact on the industry. (July 2007)

Innovating to improve healthcare

The Symbiq® infusion system received the 2007 Medical Device Excellence Award (MDEA) from Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry. This premier award recognizes products with groundbreaking innovations that are helping change the face of healthcare. The winning products are judged to excel in product innovation, design and engineering achievement, end-user benefit, and cost effectiveness. MDEA characterized the award winners for excellence in both outward design and software or system integration designed to ensure safety or reduce errors. Making patient safety easier

The Symbiq infusion system received the 2006 User-Centered Product Design Award from the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES). The award recognizes innovative, user-centered approaches to human-factors design. Human factors, or ergonomics, is the science of applying theory, principles, data and other design methods to optimize human usability and overall system performance. In a recent report on enhancing patient safety, the Institute of Medicine recommended incorporating human-factors design into device development to help decrease medication errors and enhance interaction between clinicians and technology. Embracing diversity

The Human Rights Campaign named Hospira one of the "Best Places to Work " for GLBT Equality. Hospira earned the top rating on the HRC's 2006 Corporate Equality Index, a comprehensive measure of inclusion of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees and consumers in corporate diversity initiatives. The Human Rights Campaign is the United States' largest national lesbian and gay political organization. (September 2006)
